Scott Emmerman

Terri Houston
Scott Warren, the newest member of the band playing bass (replacing Steve Allred), is a recent transplant to Chapel
Hill. Terri Houston adds a soulful vocal style
whose roots and sound stem from artist styles as
diverse as Ella Fitzgerald and Bonnie Raitt.
Lou Sawyer’s smooth saxophone work is
sometimes reminiscent of Paul Desmond, other
times sounding similar to the interpretive style
of Wayne Shorter. Scott Emmerman’s fluid
guitar playing adds a jazz-rock influence, brining some funky atmospherics as well as spirited solo work to the collective sound of the band. Spence Foscue on drums and Holden Thorp on keyboards creates a solid base from which Equinox launches its musical journeys into swing, blues and funky jazz.
Scott Emmerman has recorded and performed with Time Weisberg, Walter Jackson, Bobby Womack, Treeborn and Cher among others, and his composition “Wheelchair Ballet” was featured on “China Beach, Music and Memories,” a soundtrack album from the ABC television series.
Lou has performed with many Chapel Hill-based bands over the years. Holden has played bass, guitar and keyboards, including has played bass, guitar and keyboards, including over 20 years as the bassist for Nick Demos and the Greek Islanders. Thorp has been been musical director at Yale Cabaret and has performed on stage with Liev Shriber, Lisa Layne, Car and Reba of TV’s “The Guiding Light.”
Spence has played with many bands over the years, such as When Cousins Marry, Sue Witty and Fair Play, and Neblina. Recently, Spence sang “Dead Flowers” with Katherine Whalen of Squirrel Nut Zippers fame.
Scott Warren is originally from Dallas, TX where he attended the prestigious jazz program at University of North Texas and performed with the renown lab bands and small group ensembles. Performing professionally since age 16, he has worked as a bassist, vocalist, and producer with a number of Dallas’ most prominent acts, playing over 250 dates a year in a variety of contexts and musical styles.
Equinox performs original compositions as well as unique arrangements
of jazz and blues standards, and are equally at home on the concert stage or in a quite supper club atmosphere.
